SGP National Coordinator (São Tomé and Príncipe)

About the role

The UNDP in São Tomé and Príncipe implements the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) on behalf of the GEF Partnership, channeling grants to NGOs and community-based organisations to address climate change, biodiversity conservation, protection of international waters, prevention of land degradation and persistent organic pollutants. The National Coordinator reports through a matrixed structure to both the Resident Representative (or Deputy Resident Representative) and the SGP Regional Programme Specialist, and oversees SGP implementation at country level.

Key responsibilities

• Directly supervise the SGP Country Programme Associate/Assistant and coordinate the National Steering Committee
• Promote teamwork within the Country Programme team, the National Steering Committee and the UNDP Country Office team
• Prepare and implement the annual work plan, including strategic initiatives, and draft the annual administrative and project budget proposal
• Set annual performance parameters and learning objectives, assess performance and give feedback
• Keep abreast of national environmental priorities and socio-economic trends, and formulate, implement and periodically review the Country Programme Strategy
• Manage grant allocations and the country operating budget in line with SGP standard operating procedures and UNOPS rules
• Quality control the portfolio of project ideas, monitor implementation progress and results, and authorise project planning grants
• Organise stakeholder workshops and project development sessions for CSOs, CBOs and potential applicants, and work with them on project proposals
• Oversee ongoing grant projects, conduct periodic field monitoring visits and provide technical and operational guidance
