Local Social and Behaviour Change Communication Specialist

About the role

The Local Social and Behaviour Change / Communication Specialist will work on‑site in São Tomé and Príncipe to design, implement and refine social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) strategies that fit local cultural contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field research and community consultations to identify communication needs.
• Develop clear, culturally relevant messages and communication materials across multiple formats and channels.
• Collaborate with local institutions, civil society partners and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Plan and facilitate workshops and support participatory co‑design processes.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities.
• Document learnings, prepare reports and provide insights for future program design.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing and delivering SBCC strategies and interventions.
• Proficiency in qualitative research, community engagement and participatory methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in relevant local languages and English.
• Ability to work on‑site, adapt to changing circumstances and maintain inclusive relationships.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, public health or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Knowledge of public health or social development sectors is an asset.
