Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Conservation Fund

About the role

The Chief Executive Officer will provide visionary leadership for the STP EcoTela Fund, a trust fund dedicated to long‑term biodiversity protection and community‑led conservation in São Tomé and Príncipe. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will steer the Fund’s strategic direction, ensure operational excellence, and act as the primary ambassador for its mission.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Fund’s strategic plan in line with its mission and governing documents.
• Provide strategic advice to the Board and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Build, lead, and inspire a high‑performing team, overseeing recruitment, performance management and professional development.
• Lead fundraising initiatives, mobilise resources from donors and partners, and manage donor relationships and agreements.
• Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and transparent financial reporting.
• Design, implement and monitor funded projects, ensuring rigorous evaluation and impact assessment.
• Represent the Fund at national and international forums, fostering partnerships with governments, NGOs, private sector and international agencies.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, trust fund or conservation organization.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor stewardship.
• Strong governance and board‑relationship skills.
• Excellent communication and advocacy abilities.
• Deep understanding of biodiversity conservation, especially in island ecosystems.
