Senior Backend Engineer – Elixir & Phoenix

About the role

You will join Remote’s engineering organization, collaborating with frontend, backend, SRE, and QA colleagues in cross‑functional squads. The focus is on building tools, APIs, and integrations for our HR platform, using an Elixir/Phoenix backend, PostgreSQL, and AWS hosting.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Elixir/Phoenix services.
• Implement and evolve APIs and integration points for product features.
• Work with PostgreSQL databases and ensure data reliability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Leverage GitLab CI/CD pipelines for frequent, automated deployments.
• Contribute to automation and AI capabilities embedded in the platform.
• Own observability, monitoring, and performance tuning of services.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a proven record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience designing or adopting automation/workflow systems and iterating on them.
• Ability to think critically about architecture, domain boundaries, and ownership.
