National Consultant for Child Protection in Schools (6‑month)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to strengthen child protection mechanisms within schools in São Tomé and Príncipe. Over a six‑month period, the consultant will work closely with educators, school staff, students and caregivers to ensure safe reporting and effective referral of protection concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver training programmes for school communities based on national child‑protection tools.
• Support the establishment and regular operation of child‑protection structures in schools, linking them to the national referral system.
• Operationalise reporting and referral mechanisms at school level, ensuring accessibility and community awareness.
• Adapt, test and disseminate tools and materials to suit real‑world school contexts.
• Monitor implementation, identify challenges and propose practical solutions for sustainability.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Social Work, Child Protection or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in child protection, education, or related consultancy work.
• Proven experience designing and delivering training for diverse school audiences.
• Strong understanding of national child‑protection frameworks and referral pathways.

Required skills

• Experience in developing and adapting training materials.
• Ability to facilitate workshops and capacity‑building sessions.
• Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methods for programme implementation.
